in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

the new soft-spoken, hard-rocking group from baltimore debuted their full length live show at the wolf + lamb marcy hotel this march. following in the footsteps of greats like nicolas jaar and pillowtalk, they were the first invited guest in over 2 years to perform at the legendary brooklyn proving grounds. life on planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. it was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that s now been signed to the double standard label. life on planets has also released music through better on foot, where the debut single apollo made waves in early 2014. the touring act features live vocals and guitar, backed by a dj/producer, dawning a long-awaited return to authentic songwriting in dance music.

love fever, the infamous and erogenous east london discotheque and record label returns with some late night works in the form of ron jason and kim ann foxman s the dream project ep . after ron jason s paradise garage evoking and much played paradise lost (with love fever regular larry heard remixes) caught the ear of label bosses alex & andy last year with its depth and sincerity, ron was tracked down, discovered as italy s enigma simoncino and connected with brooklyn s fly girl and modernist diva kim ann foxman to explore possibilities in house.

eno louis gained a solid background in traditional edo music as a student at edo college in benin city, south-east nigeria. he lived at felas kalakuta republic till the army raid in 1978, when he moved to the us for a couple of years. on his return, he recorded with edo funk powerhouse the talents of benin, and quickly became a mainstay of the flourishing disco and boogie scene, in-demand as guitarist and drummer, with credits including releases by pogo ltd, amas grill, chris okotie, oby onyioha, chris mba, dizzy k falola, harry mosco, pat finn and the super elcados... to name just a few. the two tracks here are from louis debut lp, living in the usa.
